Teen bedroom design can be challenging but can also have it’s rewards. Whether you have a girl or boy, teenagers are busy exploring their own way in the world. They are trying out different things and figuring out what works for them and what doesn’t. They are also asserting their independence. What better way for them to do that than to take part in designing the room that they’ll be spending a lot of time in as they complete their school years and prepare for what is ahead.

If you have a girl, chances are she’s outgrown the pink or lavender colors that most likely graced her room as a young child. She’s testing the waters and picking out what she likes. At this point, she probably does have a favorite color and this would be a good place to start. If you start with her favorite color and then look to the things that she’s interested in when considering wall art or accessories for her room, this will bring the room together nicely. For example, if yellow is her favorite color and she’s really interested in music, start with yellow paint for her walls. Choose a shade with her so that she feels she’s a part of the process and that her opinion matters. When the room is painted, look for items to add to her walls that enhance her tastes. Perhaps a large musical note can be displayed on the wall or some wallpaper border with musical notes displayed throughout to line the tops of the walls.

Similarly, a boy should be given the same type of consideration as a girl when choosing the decor for his room. However, it may be a little more difficult to get him involved in the whole process, yet if you ask him to own the process by being a part of all of it; the painting and wallpapering, as well as the shopping and decorating, more willingness may evolve. Again, start with his favorite color, then take him with to choose the paint from the hardware store. When it comes time to paint his walls, ask him to help. Take him back to the store to choose the items that will be purely decorative. If he’s into model boats or trains, ask him to build a few to later hang with fish line from his ceiling. Adding the feel of ownership over the project will help your young man jump in with two feet and you’ll end with a room that you can both be happy about.

A blissful teenager may not result from these events, yet they won’t be moody over their bedroom. It will be an area that they will enjoy being in and that will help when they need to concentrate on a school project or something along those lines. Best of all, they will have taken at least some part in the creation of the room, so they will be excited about it when it’s done. Never pass up the chance to have a happy teenager, even when it means entering into a teen bedroom design project with them.

If you are in the market to redecorate your bedroom and are determined to have a contemporary sheik design, you are probably looking at the latest trends in modern beds and d?r. You can find many manufacturers locally and online who offer everything you need in terms of furniture and design elements to update your room and have the atmosphere that shows you are with the times.

When it comes to contemporary bedroom furniture, there is one place to start: the bed. Platform beds are the current craze, and you’ll find these simple, minimalist design features everywhere you look. Whether your bed is going to be low to the ground or raised up almost like a loft, the platform bed is the way to go if you are aiming for a contemporary sheik motif.

Modern platform beds come in all sizes, colors, and heights, but the important thing is that you don’t want anything too lavish in design if you want to have a contemporary sheik theme in your bedroom. You want to have stark, sleek lines and sharp angles with little detail and few or no intricacies. You will use this as a backboard and centerpiece for the rest of the room, where you’ll have little design and d?r pieces. You only want to have the bed as a functional piece that catches the eye as the main piece of furniture, not the art piece.

Instead, you want to add something that reflects your personality in another part of the design, a different aspect in the room. One suggestion is to do this with upholstered headboards, which can add a personal touch and flavor to the minimalistic design of the space. You can choose an upholstery pattern that reflects who you are and adds flash and pizzazz to the simplistic design.

One more thing that can create a true contemporary sheik design for your room is to add a small indoor bar with contemporary bar stools, building out a corner of your bedroom as a little romantic bar “getaway” space. This can really set your design apart as unique and sheik, also creating an environment in which you can entertain if you so choose. The bar area doesn’t have to be extravagant; simply purchase a small counter and two bar stools to complete the space, and watch your bedroom transform into a suite.

In order to stay focused, one should prepare an outline of exactly what the bedroom design will entail. That’s why a good bedroom design is one which creates an environment that is relaxing. Another easier and less expensive method to come up with a bedroom design is to plan it around a coordinated bedding set. This is he best method because it is easier to match color to fabric than fabric to color.

Furniture

A teen bedroom serves different purposes, as this is a place wherein he or she not only sleeps but also entertains friends, studies and relaxes. So the furniture should be bought keeping in mind the arrangement and storage space, according to the requirements of the teenagers. Natural loom woven furniture with a solid aluminum, hardwood or steel frame is preferred because of its intricate and delicate exterior finish and strong internal frame.

Bedroom wicker furniture should be prevented from coming into contact with water. The bedroom is a person’s private haven in the home, a place where one relaxes after a day’s work. Custom bedroom furniture can undoubtedly add color to the dream. Chests of drawers provide a further storage option and come in the form of tall-boys and standard three-door varieties.

Space

If the room is also to relax and work in, a larger space is needed. If your bedroom space is small, a partition can make the room seem larger and give you room for dressing. The floor can also be covered with multi-colored rugs and cushions in a variety of shape and sizes for extra comfort and warmth.

Since a child owns lots of toys and books, enough space should be provided for these things, which can go above the study table. Nightstands or side tables should be on either side of the bed for books, medications and telephone. A dressing table comes in handy for women, and dressers with lots of storage space are ideal. Ample closet space is important, as are mirrors and wall decor. Full length mirrors are important for checking out your apparel.

Another way that you can double the closet space is to use hanging racks or double up on the rods. If your bedroom feels chaotic, you may not sleep well because it will keep you awake trying to figure out how to eliminate the clutter.

Window

If the window is on the sunny side, it is better to complement light curtains with thick ones, small screen rollers or venetian blinds. The ideal variant is curtains of medium thickness that disperse intense daylight and soften light contrasts.

Decoration

If you are having difficulty with the decorations you can ask for help from family and/or friends. Researching magazines that specialize in interior decoration is also a good idea and better than spending money to hire an interior decorator. Bedroom decoration is not dictated by conventional home decorating styles or even by expert interior decorators. It is accomplished by your personal preference and to make it a relaxing environment separate from the rest of the home.

Do you work hard all day but have trouble shutting your mind off at night when you should be sleeping? Are you doing instant replay of millions of thoughts and things that happened throughout your day? Or, are you worried about something that will happen down the road to yourself, one of your children, a parent or a friend and you just can’t go to sleep?

One of the most frustrating things for people is to be very tired from a long day filled with many activities and facing many issues yet sleep eludes them. If this is you, is it possible that you have created a bedroom that is not conducive to rest, relaxation and sleep?

Plan Now for Sleep Later

During the planning or house buying stage, little thought is given to the location of a bedroom to say nothing about whether it is designed for its primary function, rest and relaxation. Is your bedroom in the front of the house or securely tucked away from traffic and noise on the side or in the back of the house? Is your bedroom next to the kitchen or the family room where family activities will continually interrupt your rest? Does your bedroom have an outside sliding or French door that is not securely locked and causing your subconscious mind great stress at night when you are so vulnerable?

Any or all of the above are a frequent challenge when dealing with clients that have great difficulty getting adequate rest so they can be refreshed and start their day anew. There are a few very good basic Feng Shui principles you can follow that will in many cases dramatically increase your ability to get a good night’s sleep.

Three Steps to Better Sleep

First, make sure the room is clutter free. Any clutter serves as a reminder of “things not completed, or holding onto the past”. Clutter serves to block new positive energy from entering your bedroom. By the way, clutter does include stacks of magazines, books and laundry. Remember to look under your bed. Nothing should be stored under the bed. Those items prevent positive regenerating energy from circulating completely around your body at night while sleeping. Also, if there are items with jagged edges poking upward, they are directing negative energy toward your body creating unrest and discomfort.

Second, make sure the bedroom walls are painted a very neutral or pastel color. Those colors are very soothing to the eyes and mind creating a somewhat tranquil room energy whereas bold and brighter colors are very energy active. The color should be light and soft although not white. Peach tones and warm taupe are great bedroom colors although pastel green in any shade as long as it is light and a very soft blue can also be used successfully. Blue can be a very cold color so if you choose to use it, make sure it is not the hard steel blue version. To slightly energize a pastel color use brightly colored pillows and throws that you remove from the bed at night.

Finally, check the linens, table top accessories and wall décor to make sure they are peaceful colors or depicting peaceful nurturing scenes. Bright colored patchwork quilts, action oriented wall art and angular metal objects and lamps are all energizing colors, shapes and materials. For maximum rest the room needs to be filled with peaceful energy. The linens should reflect the softness of the walls in color and value. The pictures on the walls should definitely be quieting and peaceful in nature.

A word of caution about electronic equipment; many people choose to put computers, televisions and other electronic equipment into their bedrooms. All electronic equipment is filled with energy and gathers additional energy all day long. If possible, remove all electronic equipment from your bedroom. If you love to watch television while in bed, place the television into a cabinet with doors and close the doors when you end your night viewing. If you do not have a cabinet or cannot put one into your bedroom, at minimum toss a lovely scarf or throw over the television to provide you some protection from the energized electronic activity.

Your bedroom should now be prepared for total rest and relaxation necessary for a good nights sleep. The bedroom needs to be a sanctuary from all the day’s activities and world events. By providing yourself just such a sanctuary you will find it much easier to fall asleep when you are ready and rest more soundly while sleeping.
